Say Goodbye to Lawn Mounds! ☀️ Applying Dual Action Mole & Gopher Repellent.

Let’s face it, nothing ruins a perfectly manicured lawn faster than the sudden appearance of a dirt volcano. That mound is a clear sign that a tunneling terrorist—a mole or gopher—is at work, turning your beautiful green space into an underground obstacle course.

At Greenscape Creations, we believe in safe, effective, and long-lasting solutions. That’s why we often recommend and use Victor Dual Action Mole & Gopher Repellent. This granular solution is powered by safe, natural ingredients (like Castor Oil), making it tough on pests but safe for your family and pets.

Ready to reclaim your lawn? Here is our professional guide to applying this dual-action defense.

1. Know Your Enemy: The Problem

Moles, gophers, voles, and armadillos don’t just make a mess; they damage your lawn's root system, causing brown patches and uneven turf. The Victor Dual Action formula is designed to repel them by creating an unpleasant (to them) odor and taste barrier in their tunnels. Since it’s a Granular Repellent with a Tunnel Penetrating Formula, it gets where the pests are working.

2. Gear Up: What You’ll Need

  • Victor Dual Action Mole & Gopher Repellent: The 10 lb. bag covers up to 10,000 sq. ft.

  • A Broadcast Spreader: A rotary spreader (like the Scotts SpeedyGreen shown above) is ideal for even distribution.

  • Water Source: A hose or sprinkler system is critical for activating the repellent.

3. The Greenscape Application Method

Follow these simple steps for a comprehensive, lawn-saving application:

Step 1: Prep the Field

Mow your lawn to a standard height. Before application, lightly water the area—this helps the ground accept the product. Identify your most active areas (new mounds, pushed-up tunnels) so you can focus your effort.

Step 2: Set the Spreader

Since spreader settings vary by model, always check the product bag for the recommended setting. If a setting isn’t listed for your specific model, start with a medium-high setting (around 5-7 on a standard Scotts spreader) and conduct a small test strip to ensure even coverage without clumping.

Step 3: Apply the Granules

Fill the hopper of your spreader. Walk at a consistent pace, overlapping your passes slightly. It’s crucial to cover the entire area, not just the mounds. This creates a full barrier that drives the pests away from your property.

  • Targeting Tip: Concentrate extra material in a 10–20-foot barrier around the perimeter of your yard and immediately around the most active tunnels.

Step 4: Water It In (The Activation Step!)

This is the most important part! Immediately after applying the granules, you must water the treated area thoroughly—we recommend about 1/2 inch of water.

The water carries the active ingredient (Castor Oil) down into the tunnels and soil, activating the Tunnel Penetrating Formula and establishing the odor barrier that repels moles and gophers.

4. Tips for Long-Lasting Success

  • Reapply After Heavy Rain: While the formula is designed to last, extremely heavy downpours may reduce its effectiveness. Check for renewed activity after major storms and reapply if necessary.

  • Treat the Food Source: Moles primarily eat grubs and insects. Reducing their food source with grub control can enhance the effectiveness of any repellent over the long term.

  • Consistency is Key: Repellents work by creating an inhospitable environment, which takes time. Be patient, and don't stop after the first application. Follow the directions for repeat treatments until activity ceases.
